Back on the PCT in Lake Tahoe after a month off to take care of family matters. After this picture was taken, Possum went to fasten his waist belt and it was a wee bit too tight. Apparently it only took a zonth ( a zero month) to gain back the 15 lbs that he had lost.
Looking back at Echo Lake as we were hiking away from a storm in South Lake Tahoe
Sunset on Aloha Lake was a great ending to our first day back on trail.
Can you guess how deep the snow gets here?
Sunrise over Lake Tahoe as we hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail which shares the trail with the PCT for 50 or so miles.
Our southern friend, Mr. Humidity, has a little brother in Northern California and he told Possum that he couldn't wear his pants anymore.
South of Donner Pass, we slept through a night of rain but as you can see it did make the morning hike really beautiful.
Donner Pass. Some crazy stuff went down here back in the day. Not familiar with it? Give The Donner Party a Google and you will see how our hike is a joke in comparison!
This memorial was at a rest area on Hwy 80 that we walked past. What we found troubling was that there were no vending machines here! NONE! This rest area is dedicated to The Donner Party which is synonymous with starvation. We think that there actually needs to be a FREE vending machine here in honor of The Donner Party that should have the inscription " so that no one shall ever go hungry again". By the way, we weren't sure if this was just litter or a simple, kind gesture like flowers on a memorial but there is definitely a handful of ketchup packets on the ground in this picture.
